Overview
Teams can use Console to apply consistent workflows and maintain visibility into all changes, avoiding manual group membership updates.
How Google Group management works in Console
Employees can request access to a group using natural language through Slack or Microsoft Teams, where they are captured as Requests in Console. Each request then follows a predefined workflow that determines how membership changes are reviewed and applied.
Group management can be configured to:
Collect necessary information from the requester
Route requests to the appropriate approver
Add or remove users from groups once approved
Granting and removing group membership
When a request to join or leave a Google Group is submitted, Console can:
Require approval from a manager, group owner, or IT
Enforce standardized access rules across groups
Execute membership changes through configured integrations
Record the request and resulting action for visibility
The same workflow pattern applies whether access is being granted or removed, helping teams manage group membership consistently.
Approvals and policy enforcement
Approvals play a key role in managing Google Groups securely. Console allows teams to define approval logic as part of their workflows, ensuring that group membership changes are reviewed by a human before being applied. Approval rules can vary by group, request type, or requester, giving teams control and the ability to enforce internal access policies.
Request tracking and visibility
All Google Group membership requests are tracked within Console. This gives IT teams a clear record of access changes. From Console, teams can:
View pending and completed group access requests
See the approver for a membership change
Review historical access decisions
Using Console, teams are able to maintain accountability and consistency over time.
